Youth Services Director

This position must maintain standards for school accreditation (VAISEF) and VDOE licensure. Working in collaboration with other staff, this position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of the curriculum across content areas for grades K-12. Additionally, this position will plan and oversee the Project Discovery Program. Qualifications include a postgraduate license in special education or administration and supervision, successful experience as a curriculum coordinator, current applicable State certifications and Special Education endorsements, applicable teaching credentials and certifications along with meeting professional teacher education requirements according to the Virginia Department of Education guidelines. Applicant must have strong written and oral communication skills. Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

Early Head Start/Head Start Health and Family Service Advocate


STEP, Inc. is seeking applicants for a Health and Family Service Advocate servicing Patrick and Franklin Counties. This is a full time 11 month position that will be responsible for promoting child and family wellness, parent involvement programs, and to support the implementation of the family partnership process. The health component includes tracking health records, nutrition, mental health, and disabilities. This person will operate as a liaison between the classroom and home setting.


  • Experience with case management within the human services or medical fields;
  • Experience working with low income families;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Knowledge of community resources;
  • Associates Degree in Human Services and/or medical related field preferred.


Salary range $10.22 - $12.75 per hour. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, disability insurance, PTO and 401k.

Volunteer Program Developer

STEP seeks a Volunteer Program Developer to create a formal volunteer recruitment and management system which will help staff initiate and sustain improved and growing program and service delivery.

This is an AmeriCorps VISTA position.  VISTAs are employees of AmeriCorp and receive a living allowance of approx. $12,000 paid bi-weekly while stationed at STEP. They also have the option of either an education award (approx. $5000 to be used towards student loans or for future education) or an end of service stipend (approx. $1600 to be used on anything).  They would receive these beneifts if they complete their full service year. There is no housing allowance. There is a childcare benefit; if the member needs childcare, there is a stipend to help pay for childcare costs. There is also a relocation allowance if the member is moving more than 50 miles for their service.
